Pinning: I try not to pin parallel to the seam, instead I do it at a forty-five degree angle. This helps the pattern from not shifting too much. And Marcia is rt. on target - cut sm. notches instead of them "nasty points" and a rotary! (Then you need a special cutting board!) Terry in SF

For cutting fabrics, I only use a particular pair of scissors and my rotary cutters. Having different pairs of scissors for paper and other items keep my fabric scissors sharp.

Fabrics need sharp scissors.

A couple of cutting hints from my quilting days: you can use a rotary cutter and quilt ruler on straight edges. Those nasty pointy marks? Cut right over them and go back and clip with scissors into the seam allowance to indicate where they were. (Rotary blades are cheaper than new scissors or the price of sharpening!)
